Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled System Administrator with specialized expertise in data center operations to join our growing team in Muhanga. In this critical role, you will be the backbone of our digital infrastructure, responsible for the optimal functioning, maintenance, and security of our server systems, network infrastructure, and data storage solutions within our state-of-the-art data center. This position demands a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong problem-solving abilities, and has a keen eye for detail. You will be instrumental in ensuring the high availability, performance, and reliability of our services, directly supporting the core operations of our company and our clients across Rwanda.

Your day-to-day will involve a blend of hands-on technical work, strategic planning, and collaborative efforts with other IT professionals. You will manage Windows and Linux server environments, implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies, and safeguard our systems against potential threats. A deep understanding of networking protocols, virtualization technologies, and data center best practices is essential. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain server hardware and operating systems (Windows Server, various Linux distributions) within the data center environment.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure maximum uptime and availability of all critical systems and services.
  • Administer virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Implement and manage data backup and recovery solutions, performing regular tests to ensure data integrity and recoverability.
  • Ensure network security, including firewall management, intrusion detection, and vulnerability patching.
  • Participate in the planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of new server hardware, software, and network components.
  • Perform regular system updates, patch management, and security audits.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other IT staff and end-users regarding server and network related issues.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of applications.
  • Respond to system alerts and incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator, specifically within a data center environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows Server operating systems (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS).
  • Expertise in Linux server administration (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and backup methodologies.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSA, RHCSA, CCNA, VCP).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and best practices.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix).
