Career.zycto is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a distinguished client within the fashion and textile industry, seeking a highly skilled and passionate Tailor specialising in Alterations & Stitching. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join a dynamic team in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow, where your craftsmanship will be highly valued and contribute directly to customer satisfaction and the overall success of the business. You will be responsible for a wide range of garment modifications, ensuring precision, quality, and timely completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of alterations, including but not limited to hemming, taking in/letting out seams, resizing, and restyling garments.
  • Conduct fittings with clients, accurately taking measurements and advising on the best course of alteration to achieve the desired fit and aesthetic.
  • Utilise various sewing machines and hand-stitching techniques to ensure high-quality finishes on all garments.
  • Repair damaged garments, meticulously matching fabrics and threads to restore their original condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workspace, including regular maintenance of equipment.
  • Manage workflow efficiently to ensure all alteration deadlines are met.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, building rapport with clients and ensuring their complete satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the alterations department.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Tailor or Seamstress, with a strong portfolio of alteration work.
  • Expertise in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines.
  • Proficient in various hand-stitching techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of garment construction and fabric types.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a keen eye for precision.
  • Strong ability to interpret client requests and translate them into accurate alterations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification in fashion design, tailoring, or textiles.
  • Experience with bespoke tailoring and custom garment creation.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or service environment.
  • Knowledge of current fashion trends and styles.
