Job Description
KikoRomeo is seeking a highly creative and skilled Tailor Fashion Designer to join our dynamic team in Nairobi. This pivotal role involves conceptualizing, designing, and bringing to life our unique collections, from initial sketches to final production. You will be instrumental in developing innovative designs that reflect KikoRomeo’s brand identity – a harmonious blend of traditional African influences and modern sophistication. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, fabric sourcing, and tailoring techniques, coupled with a keen eye for fashion trends and a passion for sustainable practices. You will work closely with our design head and production team, ensuring the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship in every piece. Key Responsibilities
- Develop original fashion concepts and designs, aligning with KikoRomeo's brand aesthetics and seasonal themes.
- Create detailed sketches, technical drawings, and mood boards for new collections.
- Translate design concepts into patterns, prototypes, and samples, ensuring precise fit and construction.
- Conduct fittings and make necessary alterations to achieve optimal garment fit and drape for various body types.
- Source and select appropriate fabrics, trims, and embellishments, considering sustainability, quality, and ethical sourcing.
- Collaborate closely with the production team, providing guidance and support throughout the manufacturing process to maintain design integrity.
- Stay updated on global fashion trends, fabric innovations, and sustainable practices in the apparel industry.
- Manage the design lifecycle from concept to final product, adhering to deadlines and budget constraints.
- Participate in fashion shows, photo shoots, and brand events as required to represent the brand's vision.
- Maintain an organized design archive and material library, ensuring easy access to past and current resources.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Fashion Designer or Tailor within the apparel industry.
- Exceptional portfolio showcasing strong design skills, creativity, and technical proficiency in garment creation.
- Proficiency in pattern making, garment construction, and various tailoring techniques for diverse fabric types.
- Expertise in fashion design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD) for digital design and technical flats.
- In-depth knowledge of fabrics, textiles, and their properties, including sustainable and ethically sourced materials.
- Strong understanding of current fashion trends, market demands, and consumer preferences.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure.
- A keen eye for detail, color, aesthetics, and an understanding of brand identity.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.

- Previous experience in a high-end fashion house or boutique known for custom designs and craftsmanship.
- Knowledge of merchandising and product development processes from concept to retail.
- Fluency in Swahili is a plus, enabling better communication with local artisans and production teams.
