Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct property appraisals for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural properties.
  • Analyze sales data, income, and cost approaches to determine fair market value.
  • Inspect properties to verify characteristics, condition, and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date property records, including legal descriptions, ownership, and zoning.
  • Utilize GIS, CAMA, and other assessment software to perform duties efficiently.
  • Respond to inquiries from property owners, real estate agents, and the public regarding property assessments and tax laws.
  • Prepare and present valuation evidence for appeals before assessment review boards.
  • Stay current with state and local property tax laws, regulations, and appraisal methodologies.
  • Collaborate with other government agencies and departments as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual assessment rolls.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in property appraisal and assessment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting legal descriptions, maps, and blueprints.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Montana property tax laws and regulations.
