Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in supervising students during classroom activities, recess, and other school functions.
  • Help prepare and organize instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning resources.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students requiring extra assistance with lessons or assignments.
  • Support the implementation of classroom management strategies to maintain a positive and orderly learning environment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as taking attendance, collecting homework, and grading simple assignments.
  • Facilitate student engagement in learning activities and encourage participation.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the classroom throughout the day.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Assist students with personal needs, as required, respecting their dignity and privacy.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and school events as directed.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (CXC/CSEC passes preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some prior experience volunteering or working with children (e.g., tutoring, childcare, youth groups)
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Basic knowledge of child development principles
  • Proficiency in creating engaging educational materials
