As a Theatre Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in the entire perioperative journey. Your responsibilities will span from meticulous pre-operative assessment and patient preparation, through expert intra-operative assistance, to comprehensive post-operative recovery support. Your clinical expertise and sharp observational skills will be absolutely crucial in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and ultimately safe execution of a diverse range of surgical procedures. These will encompass various specialities, including but not limited to, general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, and emergency medicine, providing a rich and varied experience.

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and resilient professional with a profound understanding of surgical principles, stringent aseptic techniques, and advanced patient monitoring capabilities. You will be instrumental in the meticulous preparation of the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterile and readily available. Your role will involve actively assisting surgeons and anaesthetists during procedures, anticipating their needs, and providing immediate, attentive post-operative care to patients as they transition from anaesthesia. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre, ensuring sterility and availability of all necessary equipment and instruments.
  • Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures, anticipating needs and providing expert support.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and condition throughout the perioperative period, responding swiftly to changes.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
  • Adhere strictly to aseptic techniques and infection control policies, safeguarding patient and staff health.
  • Provide immediate post-operative care and assist with patient recovery in the PACU or recovery area.
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity at all times, providing emotional support as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary surgical team to ensure seamless patient flow and care.
  • Manage and maintain surgical stock and supplies, ensuring proper inventory and expiry date checks.
  • Participate in pre-operative patient assessments and education, preparing patients for their procedure.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Theatre Nurse, Scrub Nurse, or equivalent perioperative role.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques, sterile field maintenance, and infection control protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent patient monitoring and assessment skills, including vital signs and emergency recognition.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes operating theatre environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational abilities, and methodical approach to tasks.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, fostering a positive and efficient working relationship.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-focused approach to care.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification recognised in Germany.
  • Specialist qualification in Operating Department Practice (ODP) or Perioperative Nursing.
  • Experience across multiple surgical specialities (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology).
  • Proficiency in German language (B2 level or higher).
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic patient records (EPR).
