Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of Therapy Assistants, ensuring high standards of practice and professional development.
  • Allocate and manage team caseloads, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and timely delivery of therapy interventions.
  • Conduct regular supervision, performance reviews, and contribute to the training and induction of new team members.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, health and safety regulations, and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct patient care as required, demonstrating exemplary therapeutic techniques and patient interaction.
  • Act as a key liaison between Therapy Assistants, qualified Therapists, patients, and their families.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and data collection for reporting.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, offering insights and updates on therapy assistant contributions.
  • Manage team rota and leave requests, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet service demands.
  • Promote a positive, supportive, and inclusive team culture.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Therapy Assistant (e.g., Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy).
  • Demonstrable leadership or supervisory experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance and patient safety principles.
  • Proficiency in patient assessment, intervention delivery, and documentation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in relevant IT systems and software for patient records and scheduling.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care, or a relevant clinical area.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience with caseload management and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with local health and social care pathways in Edinburgh.
  • Training in specific therapeutic modalities (e.g., neurological rehabilitation, complex care).
