As a Tiler specializing in bathrooms and kitchens, your expertise will be central to the successful completion and final polish of our projects. You will manage the entire tiling lifecycle, from meticulous initial surface preparation to the final, flawless grouting and sealing. This includes precisely measuring, cutting, and shaping various types of tiles – including ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, and natural stone – to perfectly fit complex patterns, intricate designs, and challenging spaces often found around fixtures, plumbing, and architectural features within kitchen and bathroom environments. Your proficiency in utilizing a range of hand and power tools, such as wet saws, tile nippers, and grinders, will be essential in achieving seamless installations.
Beyond the technical application, you will be responsible for the correct selection and application of various adhesives, mortars, and grouts, ensuring optimal adhesion, durability, and a watertight finish, particularly crucial in moisture-prone areas. A deep understanding and practical application of waterproofing systems for showers, baths, and wet rooms are paramount to prevent future issues and guarantee the longevity of your installations. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and applying primers or sealers for optimal tile adhesion.
- Accurately measure and mark surfaces to lay out work, ensuring precise alignment and spacing of tiles according to design plans.
- Cut various types of tiles (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone) to fit around obstacles, corners, and edges using specialized hand and power cutting tools.
- Apply appropriate adhesives (mortar, mastic) to surfaces or the backs of tiles with consistent thickness.
- Lay tiles according to design specifications, ensuring evenness, proper alignment, and consistent joint spacing.
- Install waterproofing membranes and backer boards in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens to prevent moisture penetration.
- Grout tiles, ensuring joints are filled completely and excess grout is meticulously removed for a clean finish.
- Clean and seal tiled surfaces to protect against stains and enhance durability.
- Inspect finished projects for quality, ensuring all work meets aesthetic and functional standards and addressing any imperfections.
- Adhere strictly to all safety standards and local building codes throughout the tiling process.
- Communicate effectively with clients, project supervisors, and other team members to ensure smooth project execution and client satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Tiler, with a strong portfolio in bathroom and kitchen installations.
- Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and laying various types of tiles (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic).
- Expertise in using a range of tile cutting tools (wet saws, tile nippers, grinders, scoring tools).
- Strong understanding of different adhesives, grouts, sealants, and waterproofing systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics and precision.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks, including bending, kneeling, and lifting heavy materials.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints, diagrams, and design specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to overcome on-site challenges and complex layouts.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and client interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational training or certification in tiling, masonry, or construction trades.
