Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Tiler to join our dynamic construction team in Musanze. As a Tiler with SWIH Ltd, you will be instrumental in the final aesthetic and functional completion of our building projects, ensuring every surface reflects our commitment to excellence. This is a skilled role requiring precision, craftsmanship, and a keen eye for detail. You will be responsible for the accurate and efficient installation of various types of tiles – ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and mosaic – on floors, walls, and other surfaces in both residential and commercial settings. Your expertise will directly impact the beauty, durability, and overall quality of our finished structures, contributing significantly to client satisfaction and our company’s reputation.

This role demands not only technical proficiency in preparing surfaces, cutting tiles with precision, and applying adhesives and grouts expertly, but also a strong understanding of architectural plans and design specifications. You will interpret blueprints and layouts to achieve desired patterns and finishes, ensuring that every tile is perfectly aligned and level. Furthermore, a strong understanding of safety protocols, proper material handling techniques, and effective time management are crucial to meet project deadlines and maintain a safe working environment. You will work closely with project managers, other skilled tradespeople, and general laborers, contributing to a collaborative and productive work environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for tiling, including cleaning, leveling, and applying waterproofing membranes.
  • Measure and cut tiles accurately using manual and power cutting tools to fit specific areas and patterns.
  • Mix and apply mortar, grout, and adhesives according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
  • Lay tiles precisely on floors, walls, and other surfaces, ensuring proper alignment, spacing, and levelness.
  • Install decorative borders, trims, and mosaics as per design specifications.
  • Perform grouting, sealing, and cleaning of tiled surfaces to achieve a professional finish.
  • Inspect finished work for quality, identifying and rectifying any imperfections.
  • Adhere strictly to all site safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Collaborate effectively with other construction team members and supervisors to ensure smooth project progression.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine tiling layouts and requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in cutting and shaping various types of tiles (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone).
  • Expertise in surface preparation techniques including screeding, plastering, and waterproofing.
  • Skilled in mortar and grout mixing and application, ensuring proper consistency and adhesion.
  • Excellent precision and attention to detail in tile layout and installation for seamless finishes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to execute complex designs.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and procedures, always prioritizing personal and team safety.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Tiler in building finishing or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or certification in tiling or a related construction trade.
  • Experience with specialized tiling techniques such as large format tiles, intricate patterns, or mosaic installations.
  • Knowledge of different adhesive types, their properties, and appropriate applications for various surfaces and tile materials.
  • Previous experience working on diverse construction projects in Rwanda, demonstrating adaptability to local conditions.
  • A portfolio of previous tiling work demonstrating high-quality finishes and attention to detail.
