Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Tool and Die Maker to join our dynamic engineering team based in Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province. This pivotal role involves the precision fabrication, repair, and meticulous maintenance of intricate tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures that are absolutely essential for our diverse manufacturing and operational needs across various industrial applications. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of our production lines by consistently creating high-quality, durable tooling that meets stringent technical specifications and rigorous performance requirements. You will be expected to work with a wide variety of materials including various grades of steel, aluminum, and specialized alloys, expertly utilizing advanced machinery such as manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and other precision machining equipment. A core part of your role will be accurately translating complex technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and detailed specifications into tangible, functional components. This position demands an exceptionally meticulous approach, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a deep, comprehensive understanding of modern manufacturing processes, advanced metalworking principles, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Key Responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, modify, and repair dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to exacting specifications.
- Operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment for precision machining.
- Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models to produce accurate components.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on tools and dies to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Conduct quality inspections of finished products using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Identify and troubleshoot tooling malfunctions, implementing effective repair solutions to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve tool designs, manufacturing processes, and product quality.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Required Skills
- Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in operating conventional and CNC machine tools.
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent understanding of metallurgy and material properties (e.g., various steels, aluminum, alloys).
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.

- Previous experience in a heavy industry or manufacturing environment.
