Key Responsibilities
- Translate a variety of documents and communications from English to Setswana and Setswana to English, including marketing materials, legal agreements, policy documents, website content, and internal communications.
- Ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to specific brand voice and terminology, particularly in the financial sector.
- Conduct thorough proofreading and editing of translated texts to guarantee error-free and high-quality output.
- Manage translation projects efficiently, adhering to agreed-upon deadlines and communication protocols.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all translated materials, especially sensitive financial information and client data.
- Utilize translation memory (TM) tools, glossaries, and style guides to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams as needed to clarify context, terminology, and ensure accurate message delivery.
- Stay updated with best practices in translation, linguistic tools, and cultural nuances relevant to Botswana.
Required Skills
- Native-level fluency in Setswana and exceptional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Proven professional translation experience of at least 3 years, preferably with a focus on business, legal, or financial content.
- Excellent command of grammar, syntax, and style in both target and source languages.
- Strong research skills for terminology, financial jargon, and cultural context.
- Proficiency in using CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ, Wordfast) and other relevant software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized translation body (e.g., ATA, ITI, SATI).
- Previous experience working with financial institutions or translating financial/banking-related content.
- Familiarity with Absa Bank's brand guidelines, corporate communication style, and relevant regulatory language.
- Experience with localization processes and tools.
