Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily transport routes, ensuring optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage driver schedules, assigning routes and ensuring adherence to legal driving hours (WTD).
- Monitor real-time progress of shipments, proactively addressing any delays or issues.
- Communicate effectively with customers, drivers, and internal departments regarding delivery schedules and updates.
- Process transport documentation accurately, including manifests, delivery notes, and customs paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with all transport regulations, including health and safety and environmental standards.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and servicing schedules to minimise disruption to operations.
- Utilise transport management systems (TMS) to track, report, and optimise logistics processes.
- Handle customer queries and complaints relating to transport services professionally and efficiently.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the transport department.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a Transport Coordinator or similar logistics role (minimum 2.5 years)
- Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance (e.g., WTD, Driver Hours)
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Proficiency in using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach
- Customer service-oriented mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business Administration
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification
- Experience with freight forwarding or international shipping processes
- Familiarity with Sheffield and surrounding areas' road networks
