Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Transport Officer specializing in Route Planning to join our dynamic team in Murang’a. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring efficient transportation routes for our fleet, ensuring timely deliveries, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This position is central to our operational success, demanding a keen understanding of local geography, traffic patterns, and vehicle capabilities to create the most effective daily, weekly, and monthly schedules. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our goods reach their destinations efficiently and on time, thereby strengthening our customer satisfaction and operational reputation.

Your day-to-day will involve leveraging advanced route planning software alongside your extensive knowledge of Murang’a and the broader Murang’a County areas to design optimized routes. This includes factoring in varying road conditions, potential congestion points, fuel efficiency, driver availability, and specific delivery time windows. A key aspect of this role is also proactive problem-solving; you will need to quickly adapt to unforeseen circumstances such as vehicle breakdowns, adverse weather, or sudden changes in delivery requirements, rerouting as necessary to minimize delays and disruptions. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize daily, weekly, and monthly transport routes for the company fleet, considering factors such as delivery schedules, vehicle capacity, traffic, and road conditions.
  • Utilize route planning software and geographical knowledge to create efficient and cost-effective travel plans.
  • Monitor real-time vehicle movements and adjust routes as necessary to accommodate unforeseen challenges like breakdowns, accidents, or diversions.
  • Collaborate with drivers, dispatchers, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth loading, unloading, and timely deliveries.
  • Analyze transport data to identify areas for improvement in route efficiency, fuel consumption, and operational costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and national transport regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on route performance, fleet utilization, and delivery metrics.
  • Implement contingency plans for potential disruptions and manage emergency situations effectively.
  • Conduct regular reviews of existing routes to identify optimization opportunities and incorporate feedback from drivers and customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of all routes, vehicle assignments, and delivery schedules.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in transport logistics and route planning (minimum 3 years).
  • Strong geographical knowledge of Murang'a County and surrounding regions.
  • Proficiency in route planning software and GPS tracking systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Kikuyu) in addition to English.
