Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and meticulous Transport Planner to join our operations team in Ladywood, Birmingham. Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize efficient delivery routes, considering factors such as delivery schedules, traffic, road restrictions, and customer requirements.
- Allocate vehicles and assign drivers to routes, ensuring maximum utilization of fleet capacity and adherence to driver hour regulations.
- Monitor real-time transport operations, tracking vehicle movements, and proactively addressing any delays or issues that may arise.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, providing clear instructions and support, and managing unforeseen challenges such as breakdowns or diversions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including driver working hours, vehicle weight limits, and health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, dispatches, and delivery performance, preparing reports for management review.
- Collaborate with warehouse, sales, and customer service teams to align transport plans with overall business objectives and customer needs.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction within the transport planning function.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in transport planning, route optimization, or logistics coordination.
- Proficiency in Transport Management Systems (TMS) and route planning software.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with drivers and internal/external stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of transport compliance and legislation (e.g., WTD, EU Driver Hours).
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or HNC in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with telematics systems and real-time fleet tracking.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
- Experience in a similar industry (e.g., FMCG, retail distribution, courier services).
