Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement optimal daily and weekly transport routes for a diverse fleet.
- Allocate vehicles and assign drivers effectively, considering load capacity, delivery schedules, and legal compliance.
- Monitor real-time transport operations, making proactive adjustments to routes and schedules as needed.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with drivers, warehouse staff, and internal stakeholders regarding dispatch plans and changes.
- Utilise transport management systems (TMS) and routing software for planning and optimisation.
- Analyse transport data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for cost reduction and service improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant road transport legislation, health & safety standards, and company policies.
- Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure fleet availability.
- Resolve operational issues, such as delays, breakdowns, or customer complaints, efficiently and professionally.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics department.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Transport Planner or in a similar logistics role.
- Strong understanding of route optimisation principles and techniques.
- Proficiency in using transport management systems (TMS) and routing software.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the Liverpool City Region and wider UK road network.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Knowledge of road transport regulations and compliance (e.g., Working Time Directive, Tachographs).
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with specific routing software (e.g., Paragon, Maxoptra, Opti-Time).
- Knowledge of hazardous goods regulations (ADR) if applicable to fleet.
- Previous experience with fleet management systems.
- A valid UK driving license.
