Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement optimal daily and weekly transport routes for a diverse fleet.
  • Allocate vehicles and assign drivers effectively, considering load capacity, delivery schedules, and legal compliance.
  • Monitor real-time transport operations, making proactive adjustments to routes and schedules as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with drivers, warehouse staff, and internal stakeholders regarding dispatch plans and changes.
  • Utilise transport management systems (TMS) and routing software for planning and optimisation.
  • Analyse transport data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for cost reduction and service improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant road transport legislation, health & safety standards, and company policies.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure fleet availability.
  • Resolve operational issues, such as delays, breakdowns, or customer complaints, efficiently and professionally.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics department.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Transport Planner or in a similar logistics role.
  • Strong understanding of route optimisation principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in using transport management systems (TMS) and routing software.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the Liverpool City Region and wider UK road network.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of road transport regulations and compliance (e.g., Working Time Directive, Tachographs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific routing software (e.g., Paragon, Maxoptra, Opti-Time).
  • Knowledge of hazardous goods regulations (ADR) if applicable to fleet.
  • Previous experience with fleet management systems.
  • A valid UK driving license.
