The safe loading and unloading of diverse cargo types, ensuring proper weight distribution, and securing items with appropriate restraints are critical aspects of the job. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) for both long-distance and local routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, driving regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, and other documentation as required.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery status, delays, and issues.
- Perform minor roadside adjustments and repairs as necessary.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods to various locations.
- Represent the company professionally to clients and the public.
Required Skills
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 (Category CE) or Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph card.
- Minimum of 2 years professional truck driving experience.
- Proven track record of safe driving and adherence to regulations.
- Strong understanding of driver hours regulations and working time directives.
- Excellent spatial awareness and navigation skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with loading/unloading cargo.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of trailers (e.g., curtain-siders, flatbeds, refrigerated units).
- Knowledge of local Leeds and wider UK road networks.
- Experience using electronic logging devices (ELDs) and route optimisation software.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities on the road.
