Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Truck Mechanic to join our dynamic team in St. Michael’s, Roma. You will be responsible for a comprehensive range of maintenance and repair tasks, from routine inspections and preventative care to complex diagnostic procedures and complete overhauls. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on heavy-duty trucks, including oil changes, lubrication, fluid checks, and tire rotations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Repair and replace faulty parts, components, and systems such as engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Execute engine overhauls, major repairs, and complete system rebuilds as required.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and hours spent.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as industry regulations.
- Communicate effectively with fleet management regarding vehicle status, repair progress, and potential issues.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Stay updated with new truck technologies and repair techniques through continuous professional development.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a heavy-duty truck mechanic or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks and lift heavy equipment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Valid driver's license with a heavy-duty endorsement (Code 14/EC is a plus).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade certificate or diploma in Diesel Mechanics or Automotive Engineering.
- Experience with specific truck brands common in Southern Africa (e.g., Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Scania, Isuzu).
- Familiarity with fleet management software.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
