Job Description

Inyange Industries Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Long Distance Truck Operator to join our dynamic logistics team based in Butare, Southern Province. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient transportation of our diverse range of dairy and beverage products across various long-distance routes within Rwanda. As a Truck Operator, you will be an essential link in our supply chain, ensuring timely deliveries to our distribution centers, wholesalers, and retail partners, thereby directly contributing to our mission of nourishing the nation.

We are looking for a professional driver with a strong commitment to safety, adherence to traffic regulations, and excellent road management skills. The ideal candidate will possess a valid heavy-duty driving license and demonstrate a proven track record of reliable long-haul transportation. You will be responsible for meticulously pre-inspecting your vehicle, ensuring its mechanical soundness before embarking on trips, and performing minor roadside maintenance when necessary. Furthermore, accurate completion of delivery paperwork, maintaining communication with dispatch, and upholding the integrity of our products during transit are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy-duty trucks for long-distance transportation of goods across designated routes within Rwanda.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including tires, lights, brakes, and other equipment.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of products to various destinations, adhering strictly to established schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents encountered during transit.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and logistics teams regarding delivery status, delays, and any issues encountered.
  • Secure cargo properly to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Represent Inyange Industries in a professional manner during interactions with customers and the public.
  • Report any vehicle defects, accidents, or traffic violations immediately to the supervisor.

Required Skills

  • Valid heavy-duty driving license (e.g., Category C, CE or equivalent in Rwanda)
  • Proven experience in long-distance commercial truck driving.
  • Strong understanding of Rwandan traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Excellent defensive driving skills and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Physical stamina to handle long driving hours and assist with loading/unloading when required.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional certifications in defensive driving or vehicle safety.
  • Experience with various types of heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
  • Knowledge of vehicle tracking systems and electronic log devices (ELDs).
  • Familiarity with fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution.
