Job Description

Groupe Scolaire Muhanga is actively seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time After-School Tutor to join our academic support team. This vital role involves providing supplementary educational assistance to students across various subjects, primarily focusing on core academic areas such as Mathematics, Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), English, Kinyarwanda, and other subjects as needed. As an After-School Tutor, you will play a crucial part in reinforcing classroom learning, clarifying complex concepts, assisting with homework, and preparing students for quizzes and examinations. You will work directly with individual students or small groups, tailoring your approach to meet diverse learning styles and academic needs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the Rwandan national curriculum for secondary education, exceptional communication skills, and a genuine passion for guiding young learners toward academic success. Your sessions will typically take place outside of regular school hours, offering flexible work arrangements that can accommodate other commitments while still allowing you to contribute meaningfully. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions to students after school hours.
  • Assist students with homework, class assignments, and exam preparation in designated subjects.
  • Explain complex concepts and theories in an understandable manner, using various teaching methods.
  • Assess students' academic needs and tailor tutoring strategies to suit individual learning styles.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and, where appropriate, to school staff.
  • Create a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages academic growth and confidence.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student attendance, and progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents/guardians to ensure a consistent and effective learning approach.
  • Stay updated on curriculum requirements and educational best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in core secondary school subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Sciences, English, Kinyarwanda).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with online learning tools (if applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a degree in Education, a relevant academic field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring roles, particularly with secondary school students.
  • Familiarity with the Rwandan national curriculum for secondary education.
  • Ability to tutor across multiple subjects.
  • Certifications in teaching or related educational fields.
