Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite applications for various financial products based on established criteria and risk appetite.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, collateral, and other relevant documentation to assess applicant's creditworthiness and risk profile.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions, conditions, and requirements clearly and professionally to internal teams and external partners.
  • Collaborate with sales, legal, and risk management departments to structure deals, negotiate terms, and resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all underwriting decisions and rationale.
  • Stay informed of market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes impacting the underwriting process.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an Underwriter in financial services or insurance.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent understanding of financial statements, credit analysis, and risk assessment principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and underwriting software.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., LOMA, CPCU, ACI) are a plus.
  • Experience with specific financial products (e.g., commercial lending, life insurance, property & casualty).
  • Knowledge of local and federal lending regulations.
