Career.zycto is seeking a meticulous and analytical Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Weston, Toronto. This vital role is at the heart of our operations, where you will be instrumental in evaluating risk, making informed decisions on policy acceptance, and ensuring the profitability and stability of our portfolio. As an Underwriter, you will delve into complex data, assess applications against established criteria, and apply your expert judgment to identify potential exposures. Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate insurance applications for various lines of business, assessing risk factors and making sound underwriting decisions.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, industry trends, and other relevant data to determine eligibility and appropriate pricing.
  • Communicate effectively with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions, requirements, and policy terms.
  • Ensure compliance with company underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts, monitoring performance and conducting periodic reviews.
  • Mentor junior team members and share expertise to foster a collaborative learning environment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience, preferably in a commercial or personal lines capacity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment and evaluation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with underwriting software and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional designation such as CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional) or CRM (Canadian Risk Management).
  • Experience with data analytics tools and advanced Excel functions.
  • Knowledge of the Toronto insurance market and local regulatory landscape.
