Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate insurance applications for various lines of business, assessing risk factors and making sound underwriting decisions.
- Analyze financial statements, credit reports, industry trends, and other relevant data to determine eligibility and appropriate pricing.
- Communicate effectively with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions, requirements, and policy terms.
- Ensure compliance with company underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of underwriting policies and procedures.
- Manage a portfolio of accounts, monitoring performance and conducting periodic reviews.
- Mentor junior team members and share expertise to foster a collaborative learning environment.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience, preferably in a commercial or personal lines capacity.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
- Proficiency in risk assessment and evaluation techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with underwriting software and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional designation such as CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional) or CRM (Canadian Risk Management).
- Experience with data analytics tools and advanced Excel functions.
- Knowledge of the Toronto insurance market and local regulatory landscape.
