Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Urban Planning Support Assistant to join our growing team in the vibrant Exchange District of Winnipeg. As an Urban Planning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our planning projects, providing essential administrative, research, and technical support to our senior urban planners and project managers. You will be instrumental in the preparation of planning documents, conducting preliminary research, coordinating meetings, and maintaining project schedules. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a keen eye for detail. You will work within a collaborative environment, gaining exposure to various stages of urban planning, from policy development to land use applications and community engagement initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior planners with research, data collection, and analysis for various urban planning projects, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and policy frameworks.
- Prepare, edit, and format planning documents, reports, presentations, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established guidelines.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings, workshops, and public engagement sessions, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and distributing materials.
- Maintain project files, databases, and tracking systems to ensure all project documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Support the preparation and submission of development applications, zoning amendments, and other regulatory documents.
- Liaise with internal teams, external consultants, government agencies, and community stakeholders as required.
- Assist with graphic design and mapping tasks using GIS software or other relevant tools for project visualization.
- Manage general office administration tasks to support the planning department's operations.
- Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and legislative changes in urban planning.
- Provide logistical support for events, workshops, and community outreach programs.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research and synthesize information
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy

- Basic understanding of urban planning principles and practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related field
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) or graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator)
- Familiarity with municipal planning processes and regulations in Manitoba
- Experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within a planning or architectural firm, or government setting
- Knowledge of sustainable development principles and community engagement strategies
