This is an incredible opportunity to embark on a vital career path within the federal government, contributing directly to consumer health and national food security. This position offers a direct entry point into the crucial field of federal food safety regulation, providing extensive training and a clear path for professional growth.

This entry-level role is perfect for those eager to learn, possessing a keen eye for detail, and a strong sense of responsibility. You will receive comprehensive training to develop the specialized knowledge and skills required to excel in this demanding yet highly rewarding profession. Your initial training will cover a wide array of topics, including hazard analysis, critical control points (HACCP), sanitation performance standards (SPS), and standard operating procedures (SOPs). You will learn to conduct thorough pre-operational and operational inspections, meticulously observing production processes, verifying equipment cleanliness, and monitoring environmental conditions.
Your work will involve verifying sanitation standards, product formulation, labeling accuracy, and humane handling practices at federally regulated establishments. You’ll learn to identify potential hazards, collect samples for laboratory analysis to detect contaminants or verify product composition, and document all findings with precision and accuracy. Furthermore, you will be trained to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements, effectively communicate deficiencies to facility management, and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance. The ability to maintain detailed records and generate comprehensive reports will be fundamental to your success.
This position demands individuals who are comfortable working independently in diverse environments, from processing plants to slaughterhouses, often under varying temperature conditions. It requires physical stamina, the ability to stand for extended periods, walk distances, climb stairs, and lift up to 40 pounds, as well as navigate various industrial settings safely. You’ll interact regularly with facility management, industry personnel, and occasionally other government agencies, making strong communication and interpersonal skills absolutely essential.
