Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a company van for local multi-drop deliveries and collections across Sheffield and nearby regions.
  • Efficiently load and unload goods, ensuring proper securing and handling to prevent damage during transit.
  • Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes, adapting to traffic and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Accurately complete delivery paperwork, digital logs, and utilize handheld devices for proof of delivery.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company safety policies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and basic upkeep of the assigned company vehicle.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery statuses or issues.
  • Manage time effectively to meet scheduled delivery windows and complete routes efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Driving License (Category B) with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Clean driving record and proven history of safe driving practices.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a van driver or in a similar professional delivery role.
  • Excellent knowledge of Sheffield and surrounding road networks.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move packages of varying weights safely.
  • Strong time management, organisational, and route planning skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with handheld delivery devices or route optimisation software.
  • Familiarity with various types of delivery routes, including multi-drop and scheduled deliveries.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to identify and report minor vehicle issues.
  • Previous customer service experience in a delivery or face-to-face role.
