Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Restrain and handle animals safely and compassionately during treatments and diagnostics.
  • Prepare examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and sterilized.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients, record observations, and report changes to veterinary staff.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Perform laboratory duties, including collecting samples, running basic diagnostic tests, and preparing samples for external labs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with client communication regarding animal care and follow-up instructions.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and clinic facilities to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Assist with inventory management, including stocking supplies and ensuring proper storage.
  • Provide basic client education on pet nutrition, preventative care, and medication administration.
  • Handle phone inquiries, schedule appointments, and manage client check-ins/check-outs efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in animal handling and restraint techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy for animals and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in maintaining cleanliness and sterilization protocols.
  • Physical stamina to lift and restrain animals, and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Veterinary Assisting or Animal Health Sciences.
  • Previous experience (1+ year) working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter.
  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software.
  • Knowledge of basic emergency animal care procedures.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of animal species.
