Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
  • Perform safe and compassionate animal restraint for various procedures and handling.
  • Prepare examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring they are clean and stocked.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and other medical equipment.
  • Provide basic patient care, including feeding, walking, and monitoring hospitalized animals.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including preparing samples for in-house testing or external labs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including observations and treatments.
  • Educate clients on routine pet care, pre-operative instructions, and post-operative care.
  • Manage inventory and ensure supplies are adequately stocked, alerting management to ordering needs.
  • Perform general clinic housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized environment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a clinic setting.
  • Proven ability to safely and effectively restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping and scheduling.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to animal care and client interaction.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Veterinary Assistant diploma or certification from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with veterinary practice management software (e.g., Avimark, Cornerstone).
  • Knowledge of common veterinary medical terminology and basic pharmacology.
  • First aid and CPR certification for animals.
