Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Monitor vital signs, collect samples (blood, urine, faeces), and perform basic laboratory tests.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including monitoring anaesthesia and recovery.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of examination rooms, surgical suites, and animal housing areas.
  • Educate pet owners on animal care, nutrition, medication administration, and post-treatment instructions.
  • Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely.
  • Manage patient records, schedule appointments, and maintain inventory of supplies and medications.
  • Assist in radiography, ultrasonography, and other diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations calmly and efficiently, providing first aid when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Certificate in Veterinary Nursing/Technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in a veterinary clinic setting.
  • Proficiency in animal restraint and handling techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and pharmacology.
  • Ability to administer injections, draw blood, and perform basic laboratory tests.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy for animals and their owners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in using veterinary practice management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a variety of animal species (e.g., small animals, exotics).
  • Current registration or license as a Veterinary Nurse (if applicable in Mauritius).
  • First aid and CPR certification for animals.
  • Experience in surgical assisting and anaesthesia monitoring.
