Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technologists during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Prepare examination rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, ensuring they are clean and stocked.
- Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely during procedures.
- Monitor vital signs of patients during anesthesia and recovery.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, including urinalysis and fecal analysis.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Educate clients on pet care, nutrition, medication administration, and post-operative instructions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist with basic receptionist duties, including answering phones and scheduling appointments, when needed.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong desire to learn
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Physical ability to lift and restrain animals (up to 50 lbs)
- Comfortable working with various animal species and temperaments
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment or interest in a Veterinary Technician/Assistant program
- Previous volunteer experience at an animal shelter or clinic
- Knowledge of basic animal husbandry
