The Residence Zanzibar is seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Villa Caretaker Assistant to join our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in upholding the immaculate standards of our luxury villas and their surrounding environments, directly contributing to the serene and exclusive atmosphere our guests cherish. As a Villa Caretaker Assistant, you will work closely with our Villa Management and Housekeeping teams, playing a crucial role in the day-to-day operations that keep our property pristine. Your responsibilities will span from performing routine inspections and addressing minor maintenance issues to assisting with landscaping and ensuring all villa amenities are in perfect working order. Your keen eye for detail, proactive approach, and ability to anticipate needs will directly contribute to the exceptional guest satisfaction synonymous with The Residence Zanzibar. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily detailed inspections of assigned luxury villas, identifying and promptly reporting any maintenance or cleanliness issues to ensure pristine conditions.
  • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance tasks within villas and their surrounding private garden areas (e.g., changing light bulbs, fixing small leaks, basic furniture adjustments, light gardening).
  • Assist the housekeeping team with specific tasks as needed to ensure all villas consistently meet the demanding five-star cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Monitor and replenish villa amenities, ensuring all items are well-stocked, impeccably presented, and align with luxury brand standards.
  • Report larger, more complex maintenance needs to the appropriate engineering or facilities department for timely and specialized resolution.
  • Ensure outdoor areas, including private villa pools and gardens, are consistently tidy, free of debris, and well-maintained.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene standards and protocols to ensure a safe environment for both guests and staff.
  • Respond to guest requests and concerns in a professional, courteous, and timely manner, escalating complex issues to management as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with other departments, including front office, engineering, landscaping, and guest relations, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of villa supplies and tools, reporting any shortages to ensure continuous availability and efficiency.
  • Operate basic cleaning and maintenance equipment safely and efficiently, following all operational guidelines.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 1 year of proven experience in a similar role within a hospitality environment (e.g., luxury hotel, resort, guesthouse, villa management).
  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance principles, including foundational understanding of plumbing, electrical systems, and carpentry.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to identifying and addressing potential issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, particularly adept at managing tasks within flexible scheduling frameworks.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Fluent communication skills in Swahili; proficiency in English is considered a significant advantage for guest interaction and team communication.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a unwavering commitment to achieving the highest levels of guest satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent vocational training in hospitality services, facility maintenance, or a closely related field.
  • Certification or formal training in hospitality maintenance or a relevant trade.
  • Prior experience working with luxury properties or catering to high-end clientele.
  • Familiarity with local environmental and safety regulations specific to Zanzibar.
