Job Description

Red Star Express Plc. is actively seeking a dedicated and efficient Warehouse Dispatcher with expertise in Logistics Coordination to join our dynamic team in Mushin, Lagos. In this pivotal role, you will be the linchpin connecting our warehouse operations with our vast network of drivers and delivery routes. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and timely dispatch of goods, playing a critical part in our promise of reliable service and customer satisfaction.
As a Warehouse Dispatcher, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of our logistics activities from the Mushin warehouse. This involves meticulously managing driver schedules, assigning optimal routes based on traffic conditions and delivery urgency, accurately tracking shipments from departure to arrival, and adeptly addressing any operational challenges that may arise during transit. Your ability to communicate clearly and concisely, make quick, informed decisions under pressure, and proficiently utilize dispatch software will be crucial for success in this role. You will work closely with warehouse staff to confirm accurate loading and documentation, collaborate with drivers to provide support and resolve on-road issues, and coordinate with customer service to ensure all outgoing shipments are processed correctly, dispatched promptly, and reach their destinations on schedule. This role demands a keen eye for detail, excellent geographical knowledge of Lagos’s complex road networks, and a proactive, problem-solving approach to ensure seamless supply chain execution. Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently plan and dispatch drivers and vehicles for local and regional deliveries, optimizing routes for speed, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate closely with warehouse personnel to ensure timely and accurate loading, offloading, and proper documentation of outgoing and incoming shipments.
- Monitor and track delivery progress in real-time using GPS and logistics software, providing proactive updates to relevant stakeholders and addressing potential delays or issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with drivers, providing clear instructions, necessary support, and resolving any on-road challenges or incidents such as breakdowns or traffic diversions.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records, driver logs, shipment documentation, and incident reports in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and prioritize multiple deliveries and pick-ups simultaneously, adapting quickly to changes in schedules, urgent requests, and unforeseen operational circumstances.
- Utilize advanced logistics software and GPS tracking systems to enhance operational efficiency, visibility, and accountability across the dispatch process.
- Collaborate proactively with customer service to resolve delivery inquiries, manage returns, address customer concerns, and provide accurate estimated times of arrival (ETAs).
- Conduct regular checks on vehicle availability, service schedules, and maintenance needs to ensure fleet readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of dispatch procedures, operational protocols, and overall logistics efficiency through feedback and innovative suggestions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a Dispatcher, Logistics Coordinator, or similar role in a fast-paced logistics or transportation environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively and prioritize critical tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and clearly with drivers, colleagues, and clients.
- Proficiency in using dispatching software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- In-depth knowledge of Lagos road networks, traffic patterns, and geographical areas relevant to logistics operations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making skills under pressure, especially in time-critical situations.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping, documentation, and data entry.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team in a dynamic and demanding operational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CILT, APICS).
- Previous experience with specific Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to transportation and dispatch in Nigeria.
- Previous experience working with a major courier or logistics company with a large fleet.
