Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking dedicated and physically fit individuals to join our team as a Waste Collection Support Worker in the Jacques-Cartier borough of Sherbrooke. This full-time, on-site position is crucial to maintaining the cleanliness and public health of our community. As a vital member of our waste management crew, you will work closely with our experienced drivers, ensuring the efficient and safe collection of residential, commercial, and industrial waste materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist drivers in the safe and efficient collection of waste materials from designated routes.
  • Manually load various types of waste, including solid waste, recycling, and organic materials, into collection vehicles.
  • Operate compaction mechanisms and other equipment on the collection vehicle as trained and directed.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of collection equipment and report any maintenance needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the collection vehicle and work areas throughout the shift.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and provincial regulations, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, supervisors, and the public.
  • Navigate routes efficiently, assisting the driver with turns, backing up, and identifying potential hazards.
  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of collected waste according to established guidelines.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver heavy and bulky items consistently throughout the work day.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability, with a proven record of consistent attendance.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all operational procedures.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Good spatial awareness and ability to follow directions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role, such as construction, landscaping, or warehouse operations.
  • Familiarity with waste management practices or equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's license with a clean driving record.
