Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain waste collection vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collect and load various types of waste materials (e.g., household garbage, recyclables, organic waste) from designated residential, commercial, or industrial areas.
- Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely and complete collection.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and provincial environmental guidelines.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment; report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Interact professionally and courteously with the public and team members.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles and assigned equipment.
- Sort and separate recyclable materials as required.
- Lift and carry heavy items regularly throughout the shift (up to 50 lbs/23 kg).
- Work effectively as part of a team, communicating any issues or concerns to supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repeated lifting, bending, and carrying.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
- Good communication skills (verbal, in English or French).
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
- Physical stamina and endurance.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada (for foreign workers, this includes appropriate work permits/visas).
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in waste collection, general labour, or a similar physically demanding role.
- Valid Class 3 driver's license (or equivalent) with air brake endorsement, or willingness to obtain one.
- Basic knowledge of waste management practices and recycling.
- Proficiency in French is an asset for local community interaction.
- Understanding of Canadian workplace safety standards.
