Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain waste collection vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collect and load various types of waste materials (e.g., household garbage, recyclables, organic waste) from designated residential, commercial, or industrial areas.
  • Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely and complete collection.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and provincial environmental guidelines.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment; report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with the public and team members.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles and assigned equipment.
  • Sort and separate recyclable materials as required.
  • Lift and carry heavy items regularly throughout the shift (up to 50 lbs/23 kg).
  • Work effectively as part of a team, communicating any issues or concerns to supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repeated lifting, bending, and carrying.
  • Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
  • Good communication skills (verbal, in English or French).
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada (for foreign workers, this includes appropriate work permits/visas).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in waste collection, general labour, or a similar physically demanding role.
  • Valid Class 3 driver's license (or equivalent) with air brake endorsement, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Basic knowledge of waste management practices and recycling.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset for local community interaction.
  • Understanding of Canadian workplace safety standards.
