The role of a Waste Management Worker is crucial for maintaining environmental hygiene and public health within the Dieppe and Moncton communities. As a Waste Management Worker, you will operate as part of a dedicated team, often working outdoors in various weather conditions. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of waste, using specialized equipment and adhering to strict safety guidelines to protect yourself, your colleagues, and the public. This includes operating compaction mechanisms on collection vehicles, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and load various types of waste materials (residential, commercial, recycling) into collection vehicles.
  • Operate compaction controls and other mechanisms on waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, traffic laws, and company policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of collection vehicles and equipment.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with the public and team members.
  • Identify and report unauthorized waste or hazards encountered on routes.
  • Sort recyclable materials as required, ensuring proper segregation.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to complete assigned routes on schedule.
  • Endure physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs consistently).
  • Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent for New Brunswick) with a clean driving record.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in waste management, general labour, or a similar outdoor physical role.
  • Knowledge of Dieppe/Moncton area routes and geography.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment or commercial vehicles.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
