Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Water Treatment Technician to join our client’s utility services team in Ewarton, Saint Catherine Parish. This is a critical full-time role vital to ensuring the continuous supply of safe, clean drinking water to the community. As a Water Treatment Technician, you will be on the front lines, responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of water treatment plants and associated infrastructure. Your daily work will directly impact public health and environmental quality, making this a profoundly rewarding position for someone who values precision, responsibility, and community service.

In this role, you will apply your technical expertise to monitor water quality parameters, conduct routine laboratory tests, and adjust chemical dosages to ensure compliance with national and international drinking water standards. You will be instrumental in operating complex filtration, disinfection, and chemical feed systems, ensuring they run efficiently and effectively. Furthermore, you will be expected to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot operational issues, and conduct minor repairs on equipment. Safety is paramount; strict adherence to all operational and safety protocols is non-negotiable. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and disinfection systems.
  • Perform routine water quality sampling and conduct basic laboratory tests (e.g., pH, chlorine residual, turbidity) to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Adjust chemical dosages (e.g., coagulants, disinfectants) as required, based on test results and operational guidelines.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on plant equipment, perform minor repairs, and assist with major maintenance activities.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment regularly, identifying and reporting any malfunctions, deviations, or potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of plant operations, maintenance activities, chemical usage, and water quality data.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and operational emergencies, implementing corrective actions under supervision.
  • Calibrate and maintain monitoring instruments and process control equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification/diploma in water treatment or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 30 months (2.5 years) of practical experience in water treatment plant operations or a similar utility environment.
  • Solid understanding of water treatment processes, chemistry, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in conducting routine water quality tests and interpreting results.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and operational diagrams.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and record keeping.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid Jamaican driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized water/wastewater treatment authority.
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other process control software.
  • Knowledge of Jamaican environmental and public health regulations pertaining to drinking water quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
