Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Welding Equipment Operator to join our team at the Mutoko Depot. This crucial role involves the safe and efficient operation of various welding equipment to repair, maintain, and fabricate metal components essential for our extensive agricultural machinery, storage facilities, and transport fleet. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various welding equipment (e.g., Arc, MIG, TIG, Gas welding) to perform repairs, fabrication, and maintenance on metal structures, machinery, and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to determine appropriate welding techniques and materials.
- Prepare materials for welding by grinding, cleaning, and cutting metal pieces to specified dimensions.
- Inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws and ensure adherence to quality standards and safety regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of welding equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and supervisors to plan and execute repair projects.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in the general upkeep and cleanliness of the workshop area.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Welding Equipment Operator in an industrial or agricultural setting.
- Proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, GTAW).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to welding operations.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to operate cutting equipment, grinders, and other power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in various environmental conditions.
- Minimum of a Class 3 Skilled Worker certificate in Welding or equivalent vocational qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship completion in Metal Fabrication or Welding.
- Experience with heavy agricultural machinery or large-scale industrial plant maintenance.
- Valid driver's license (Class 2 or 4).
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and basic metallurgy.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
