Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welding Fabricator to join our dedicated team at our Masvingo operations. This is a critical role responsible for the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of various metal structures, machinery, and equipment essential to our timber processing and sawmill operations. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of different welding techniques, metal properties, and safety protocols. You will work independently and as part of a team to interpret blueprints, perform accurate measurements, cut, shape, and join metal components using a variety of tools and equipment. Your expertise will ensure the structural integrity and operational efficiency of our facilities, contributing directly to our productivity and safety standards. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to producing high-quality work under various conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine layout and dimensions for fabrication projects.
- Measure, cut, shape, and prepare metal components using tools such as grinders, plasma cutters, saws, and shears.
- Perform various welding processes including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) on different types of metals (mild steel, stainless steel, etc.).
- Fabricate and assemble metal structures, components, and equipment according to design specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct repair work on existing machinery, equipment, and structural elements within the sawmill and other operational areas.
- Inspect finished products and structures for quality, accuracy, and adherence to design specifications.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order and calibrated correctly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of PPE.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to identify needs and provide fabrication solutions.
- Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Welding Fabricator in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in various welding techniques (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of metal properties and fabrication processes.
- Competence in using a wide range of hand and power tools relevant to welding and fabrication.
- Excellent precision and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety regulations and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- A recognized Trade Test Certificate in Welding, Fabrication, or Metalwork.
- Prior experience in the timber, mining, or heavy manufacturing industries.
- Ability to operate forklifts or overhead cranes (certification an advantage).
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
- First Aid certification.
