As a Wildlife Officer, you will be on the front lines, acting as a steward of our natural resources. Your day-to-day will involve patrolling designated areas, responding to wildlife-related incidents, investigating potential infractions, and providing crucial educational outreach to residents and visitors. You will be responsible for monitoring animal populations, ensuring habitats are protected, and collaborating with local authorities, conservation groups, and the public to foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife. Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas within Reudnitz, Leipzig, and surrounding natural spaces to monitor wildlife and enforce conservation laws.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of wildlife violations, including poaching, illegal hunting, and habitat destruction.
  • Conduct wildlife population surveys, monitor species health, and report on environmental changes affecting local ecosystems.
  • Educate the public on wildlife safety, conservation practices, and environmental regulations through presentations, workshops, and community outreach.
  • Handle and relocate injured, distressed, or nuisance wildlife in accordance with established protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with local police, forestry officials, environmental agencies, and community groups on joint enforcement and conservation initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports, maintain accurate records of incidents, observations, and enforcement actions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of wildlife management plans and conservation strategies.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment and vehicles used for patrolling and wildlife management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a wildlife officer, park ranger, or similar conservation enforcement role.
  • In-depth knowledge of German wildlife laws, environmental regulations, and conservation principles.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail for monitoring wildlife and detecting violations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with the public and stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle and respond to challenging and potentially dangerous wildlife situations calmly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in German (verbal and written) is essential.
  • Valid German driving license (Class B minimum).
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Management, Environmental Science, Forestry, Biology, or a related field.
  • Certification in wildlife handling and first aid.
  • Experience with GIS mapping and data collection for environmental monitoring.
  • Proficiency in English for potential interaction with international visitors or researchers.
