Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Part-Time Youth After-School Mentors in Macate, Chimoio. As a Youth After-School Mentor, you will be instrumental in creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally outside of regular school hours. You will facilitate a variety of activities, from homework assistance and educational games to creative arts and sports, all designed to foster curiosity, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate engaging and age-appropriate after-school activities, including academic support, recreational games, and creative projects.
  • Provide one-on-one and group homework assistance, ensuring students understand assignments and develop effective study habits.
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, empathy, and integrity at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all participants.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and program staff regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior management strategies.
  • Track student attendance and progress, providing regular reports to program coordinators.
  • Collaborate with other mentors and staff to ensure seamless program delivery and student engagement.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of program spaces and materials.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with children or youth in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse youth populations.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young people.
  • Ability to organize and lead engaging activities effectively.
  • Basic understanding of child development principles.
  • Reliability and strong time management skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or diploma in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with curriculum development or program planning for youth.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and/or local Mozambican languages.
  • Knowledge of local community resources for youth and families.
