Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision to young people in a residential setting, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Implement individual care plans, risk assessments, and positive behaviour support strategies effectively.
  • Engage young people in educational, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote personal development and life skills.
  • Act as a positive role model, establishing trusting relationships and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Record daily observations, incidents, and progress reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Administer medication according to policy and procedure, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including social workers, therapists, and educators, to ensure holistic care.
  • Facilitate and participate in key work sessions with young people, reviewing their progress and setting achievable goals.
  • Assist young people with daily routines, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household chores.
  • Attend regular team meetings, training sessions, and supervision to enhance professional practice.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with children or young people in a care setting (e.g., residential care, youth work, social care).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with young people and colleagues.
  • Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and calmly.
  • Strong observational and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and communication.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent qualification.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Training in therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) or similar behaviour management techniques.
  • Full UK Driving License.
