Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Youth Mentor to join our vibrant team in Haymarket, Edinburgh. As a Youth Mentor, you will be a beacon of positivity and encouragement, fostering self-esteem, resilience, and essential life skills. You will work one-on-one or in small groups with young people, acting as a trusted confidant and a source of practical advice. Your mission will be to empower them to identify their strengths, set achievable targets, and develop strategies for success in various aspects of their lives, from academic pursuits to social interactions and career aspirations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain supportive, professional relationships with young people.
  • Conduct one-on-one and small group mentoring sessions, both structured and informal.
  • Assist mentees in setting personal, educational, and career goals, and developing action plans to achieve them.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to help young people overcome challenges and build resilience.
  • Organise and facilitate engaging activities that promote skill development and positive social interaction.
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate behaviour and attitudes.
  • Monitor and report on mentee progress, maintaining accurate records in line with safeguarding policies.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, and other relevant professionals to ensure holistic support.
  • Stay informed about local resources and opportunities available for young people.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with young people in a mentoring, coaching, or support role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young individuals.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Understanding of the developmental stages and challenges faced by young people.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including some evenings or weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Education, or a related field (e.g., SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, HNC/D in Youth Work).
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Edinburgh.
  • Experience in developing and delivering workshops or group activities for young people.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle (desirable but not essential).
  • Current First Aid certification.
