Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support, guidance, and supervision to young people in various settings (e.g., residential, outreach, community centres).
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging educational, recreational, and developmental activities.
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment.
  • Help young people develop essential life skills, including communication, problem-solving, and independent living.
  • Support young people in managing challenging behaviours and emotional difficulties, using de-escalation techniques where necessary.
  • Document observations, incidents, and progress reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for young people.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of young people, ensuring their voices are heard.
  • Ensure adherence to all safeguarding policies and procedures, maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and continuous professional development training.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong empathy and ability to build rapport with young people.
  • Patience, resilience, and a non-judgemental approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or a related field (or working towards).
  • Previous volunteer or paid experience working with young people (e.g., youth clubs, schools, mentoring).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of local resources and support networks in Haringey.
