Job Description

As our remote Translation Documentation Assistant, based in Eagle Ridge, Coquitlam, you will be a pivotal force in bridging communication gaps across diverse cultures and languages. We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and linguistically proficient individual to join our global localization team. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and cultural appropriateness of our multilingual documentation. You will actively support the entire translation lifecycle, from initial content preparation to final linguistic quality assurance. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a wide array of document types, including intricate technical manuals, compelling marketing collateral, and essential operational guides, all while collaborating closely with a diverse team of translators, reviewers, and project managers. Your daily tasks will involve leveraging cutting-edge Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, meticulously managing translation memories (TMs) and terminology glossaries, and rigorously adhering to established style guides to maintain brand voice and technical precision. Key Responsibilities

  • Content Preparation & Post-Processing: Prepare various file formats for translation, ensuring clean segmentation and proper formatting, and conduct post-translation clean-up and conversion.
  • Multilingual Translation: Translate diverse content, including technical specifications, user guides, website copy, and marketing materials, primarily between English and at least one other target language.
  • Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA): Meticulously review translated texts for grammatical correctness, stylistic consistency, factual accuracy, and adherence to project-specific terminology and brand guidelines.
  • Terminology Management: Proactively manage, update, and maintain translation memories (TMs) and terminology glossaries, contributing to enhanced translation efficiency and overall consistency across all projects.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work in close partnership with project managers, senior linguists, and other subject matter experts to clarify complex terminology, address linguistic queries, and ensure seamless project execution.
  • Documentation & Administrative Support: Maintain precise records of all translation projects, assist with version control, and provide general administrative support to the localization department.
  • Linguistic Research: Conduct in-depth research on industry-specific terminology and cultural nuances to ensure the highest level of linguistic quality and relevance.
  • CAT Tool Utilization: Become proficient in and effectively utilize leading Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Memsource) to optimize workflow and productivity.
  • Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies within the translation and documentation processes and propose innovative solutions to enhance workflow.

Required Skills

  • Native-level fluency in English and advanced proficiency in at least one other language (written and spoken).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in all working languages.
  • Proven ability to translate complex information accurately and consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for linguistic nuances and errors.
  • Proficiency in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Memsource).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a remote setting.
  • Familiarity with style guides and terminology management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a translation, localization, or documentation role.
  • Experience with Translation Management Systems (TMS).
  • Knowledge of DTP tools (e.g., InDesign, FrameMaker) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).
