Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead HVAC Technician to join our facilities management team in Kadoma. This pivotal role involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across our Kadoma branch and potentially other regional facilities. As a Lead Technician, you will not only apply your expert technical skills but also lead a small team, mentor junior technicians, and ensure all HVAC systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from preventive maintenance schedules to emergency repairs, diagnosing complex issues, and ensuring optimal indoor air quality and temperature control. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of HVAC technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of HVAC systems, including split units, ducted systems, VRF/VRV systems, chillers, boilers, and ventilation equipment.
  • Conduct thorough diagnostic checks to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC systems.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to ensure optimal performance and longevity of all HVAC assets.
  • Monitor building management systems (BMS) for HVAC-related alerts and anomalies, responding promptly to maintain desired environmental conditions.
  • Manage inventory of HVAC spare parts and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels for routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance data.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and new installations.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and call-outs outside of regular working hours as required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable expertise in HVAC system installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex HVAC mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Proficiency with various refrigerants, charging, and recovery procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC control systems and components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and regulations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Advanced Certificate in HVAC/Refrigeration Technology or a related field.
  • HVAC industry-recognized certifications (e.g., NATE, EPA Universal, specific manufacturer certifications).
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and automation controls.
  • Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainable HVAC solutions.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead HVAC technician role.
