Key Responsibilities
- Perform various welding tasks including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on structural steel, rebar, and other metal components, strictly adhering to blueprints and specifications.
- Accurately cut, grind, and meticulously prepare metal surfaces for welding, ensuring precise fit-up and optimal alignment for strong, durable welds.
- Operate and diligently maintain a variety of welding equipment, which includes but is not limited to arc welders, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and grinding tools.
- Thoroughly inspect all completed welds for quality, structural integrity, and strict adherence to relevant industry codes and project-specific standards.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including the proper and consistent use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe work environment.
- Proficiently read and interpret complex blueprints, technical schematics, and welding symbols to accurately determine all project requirements and material specifications.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with other construction trades, project engineers, and various team members to ensure seamless project execution and timely completion.
- Efficiently troubleshoot and expertly repair existing metal structures and equipment as required, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational continuity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times to promote efficiency and prevent accidents.
- Actively participate in regular safety meetings and ongoing training programs designed to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in multiple welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, FCAW)
- Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, technical schematics, and welding symbols
- Excellent, in-depth knowledge of welding safety procedures, best practices, and relevant industry regulations
- Proven experience with various metal cutting tools (e.g., oxy-fuel, plasma) and grinding equipment
- Exceptional physical stamina, agility, and the ability to work effectively in demanding construction environments and varied weather conditions
- Impeccable attention to detail and a commitment to precision in all welding and fabrication work
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively troubleshoot welding issues on-site
- Solid basic mathematical skills for accurate measurements, calculations, and material estimations
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent
- Relevant welding certification from a recognized and reputable institution (e.g., AWS, CWI or equivalent local certification)
- Proven experience working specifically on large-scale construction or complex civil engineering projects
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and effectively as an integral part of a larger team
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
