Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sound Engineering Assistant to join our vibrant and growing team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring audio professional to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and creative environment. As a Sound Engineering Assistant, you will play a crucial supporting role in all phases of audio production, from initial setup and recording to mixing, mastering, and post-production. You will work closely with our lead sound engineers on a diverse range of projects, including podcasts, voice-overs, music production, live events, and multimedia content. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, a keen ear for detail, and a proactive attitude. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of our studio and on-location recording sessions, contributing to the high-quality audio output that our clients expect. Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead sound engineers with studio setup, equipment calibration, and microphone placement for recording sessions.
- Operate recording consoles, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and other audio equipment during sessions.
- Monitor audio levels and quality throughout recording and mixing processes, providing real-time feedback.
- Perform basic editing tasks, including noise reduction, vocal tuning, and track alignment.
- Organize and archive audio files, project data, and session documentation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment, ensuring all gear is in optimal working condition.
- Prepare audio for various platforms, ensuring adherence to technical specifications for delivery.
- Assist with post-production tasks such as sound design, Foley recording, and audio sweetening.
- Provide administrative support for audio projects, including scheduling and resource management.
- Continuously learn new techniques and software to enhance audio production skills and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with at least one major Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, or Studio One.
- Fundamental understanding of audio signal flow, microphone types, and recording techniques.
- Basic knowledge of audio editing, mixing, and mastering principles.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a critical ear for sound quality.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Experience with live sound reinforcement and event production.
- Familiarity with various audio plugins (EQ, compression, reverb, etc.) and their applications.
- A portfolio demonstrating previous audio projects (e.g., sound design, music production, podcasts).
- Knowledge of acoustics and studio design principles.
- Experience with video synchronization and audio post-production for visual media.
