Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Science Outreach Education Assistant to join our dedicated team in Chomedey, Laval. This is an incredible opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping young minds and fostering a lifelong love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

As a Science Outreach Education Assistant, you will be instrumental in delivering captivating and interactive science workshops, demonstrations, and educational programs to diverse audiences, primarily K-12 students, within schools, community centers, and at special events throughout the Laval region. You will work closely with our lead educators to prepare educational materials, set up experimental stations, and ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment. This role requires not only a solid understanding of various scientific principles but also the ability to communicate complex ideas in an engaging, age-appropriate, and accessible manner.

We are looking for someone who can ignite curiosity, encourage participation, and inspire wonder through practical, hands-on activities. You will guide participants through experiments, explain scientific concepts with clarity and enthusiasm, and help them connect scientific principles to their everyday lives. Beyond direct instruction, you will assist with program logistics, including material inventory, transportation of equipment, and post-event reporting. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and delivery of interactive science workshops and educational programs for K-12 students and community groups.
  • Support lead educators in setting up and dismantling experimental stations and presentation areas.
  • Clearly and engagingly explain scientific concepts and facilitate hands-on activities in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during experiments and activities, adhering to established protocols.
  • Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and organization of educational materials and equipment.
  • Transport materials and equipment to various outreach locations (schools, community centers, events).
  • Encourage participant engagement, answer questions, and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of new program content and educational resources.
  • Collect feedback and assist in basic program evaluation and reporting.
  • Represent Career.zycto professionally and enthusiastically at all events.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for various scientific disciplines (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science).
  • Experience working with children or youth in an educational, recreational, or camp setting.
  • Ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for different age groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for material preparation and inventory.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (or willingness to use public transport) for transporting equipment.
  • Proficiency in French and English (bilingualism highly valued for the Quebec context).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience in informal science education, museum education, or outreach programs.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with basic AV equipment or presentation software.
  • A portfolio or examples of past educational activities developed or delivered.
