Job Description
Are you passionate about working outdoors, contributing to the growth of essential crops, and being part of a pioneering agricultural project? The Lesotho Sugar Development Corporation (LSDC) is urgently seeking dedicated and energetic Farm Workers to join our expanding team in Mphaki, Quthing. This is a critical role that forms the backbone of our agricultural operations, ensuring the successful cultivation and harvesting of our crops. As a Farm Worker, you will be involved in a wide array of hands-on tasks across the farm, from preparing land and planting seeds to crop maintenance, harvesting, and general farm upkeep. We are looking for individuals who are reliable, hardworking, eager to learn, and possess a strong work ethic. While previous farm experience is a plus, it is not strictly required; we value a positive attitude and a willingness to commit to the demands of agricultural work. You will be expected to work collaboratively with a team, follow instructions meticulously, and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure a productive and secure working environment. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare land for planting, including tilling, fertilizing, and creating furrows.
- Plant seeds or seedlings according to established guidelines and schedules.
- Cultivate and maintain crops by weeding, pruning, and thinning.
- Operate and maintain basic farm machinery and equipment (e.g., hoes, shovels, small tractors if trained).
- Monitor crop health, identify pests or diseases, and report findings to supervisors.
- Assist with irrigation systems, ensuring proper water distribution to crops.
- Participate in the harvesting of crops, ensuring quality and efficient collection.
- Load and unload harvested produce and other farm materials.
- Perform general farm maintenance tasks, such as repairing fences, clearing debris, and maintaining farm buildings.
- Adhere strictly to all farm safety regulations and guidelines.
- Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
