Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and informative tours for groups of varying sizes, showcasing the natural beauty, history, and culture of Petite Rivière and the Black River District.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants, conducting pre-tour safety briefings and adhering strictly to established safety protocols.
- Provide accurate and captivating commentary on local points of interest, wildlife, flora, history, and cultural traditions.
- Manage tour logistics efficiently, including scheduling, equipment checks, and adherence to planned itineraries.
- Handle unexpected situations with professionalism and resourcefulness, such as adverse weather, participant concerns, or minor emergencies.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging interaction and ensuring an enjoyable experience for all guests.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, punctuality, and customer service at all times.
- Assist with basic first aid when necessary (training provided).
- Collect feedback from guests to contribute to continuous improvement of tour offerings.
Required Skills
- Excellent command of English and French (written and spoken); Creole is a significant advantage.
- Proven experience in guiding or leading groups in outdoor/tourism settings.
- Extensive knowledge of Mauritius' geography, history, culture, and natural environment, particularly the Black River District.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to think on your feet, problem-solve, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Valid driver’s license (Category B minimum, Category D an advantage).
- Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Physical fitness and stamina to navigate varied terrain and weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Tourism, Hospitality, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience with adventure tourism activities such as hiking, snorkeling, or wildlife observation.
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., German, Mandarin, Hindi).
- Certification in specific outdoor activities (e.g., wilderness first aid, rescue swimmer).
- Prior experience working with international tourist groups.
