Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking an experienced and dynamic Stage Manager to join our network of premier cultural talent in Essen. This unique opportunity offers the crucial responsibility of managing live productions and events with the added benefit of flexible hours, catering to those who excel in dynamic environments but require adaptability in their schedule. As a Stage Manager, you will be the linchpin of various productions, ensuring seamless execution from rehearsal to curtain call. Your role will involve orchestrating all technical and artistic elements, maintaining clear communication across diverse teams, and proactively solving challenges that arise in the fast-paced world of live performance. We are looking for a professional who can bring precision, calm, and leadership to every project.

This position is perfect for someone with a deep passion for the performing arts who thrives on the energy of live shows. You will be responsible for the meticulous planning and flawless delivery of theatrical performances, concerts, and special events. The flexible hours model means that while the work is on-site and intensely hands-on during production phases, your overall schedule can be tailored to align with various project-based demands, potentially allowing for periods of intense work followed by more relaxed periods, or a staggered schedule across multiple smaller projects. You’ll work closely with directors, designers, actors, and technical crews, acting as the central hub of information and coordination. Your commitment to safety, artistic integrity, and efficient operation will be paramount. If you are a natural leader with an eye for detail and the ability to inspire confidence, we encourage you to apply and help us bring extraordinary experiences to audiences in Essen.

  • Manage and maintain production equipment, props, costumes, and scenic elements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, venue regulations, and local health and safety guidelines.
  • Call cues for lighting, sound, scenic changes, and performer entrances during live shows.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive production notes, reports, and archival documentation.
  • Proactively identify and resolve technical or logistical challenges during rehearsals and performances.
  • Adapt to varying production demands and schedules, demonstrating flexibility in working hours and project commitments.
  • Lead and motivate production crews, fostering a collaborative and professional working environment.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Stage Manager in theatre, live events, or related productions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with a track record of managing complex schedules.

  • Demonstrated ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure in a live environment.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, floor plans, and production paperwork.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to potential issues.
  • A deep understanding of theatrical terminology, production processes, and backstage etiquette.
  • Fluent in English; working knowledge of German is highly advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts, Production Management, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and basic fire safety.
  • Experience with various genres of performance (e.g., musical theatre, drama, opera, dance).
  • Familiarity with production management software and cueing systems.
  • Knowledge of local cultural institutions and performing arts venues in Essen and surrounding areas.
