Key Responsibilities

  • Draft a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, contracts, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Organise, maintain, and update both physical and electronic client files, ensuring all documents are correctly categorised and readily accessible.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of court filings, including e-filing processes, strictly adhering to deadlines and jurisdictional rules.
  • Conduct preliminary legal research using various databases and resources under the supervision of attorneys to support case development.
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, depositions, and court dates, and coordinate travel arrangements as required.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, courts, and other external parties, handling inquiries professionally and directing calls appropriately.
  • Prepare trial binders, exhibits, and other materials for hearings, mediations, and trials.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and emails, distributing them to the appropriate individuals.
  • Assist in billing procedures, timekeeping, and expense reporting.
  • Perform general administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of the office.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (minimum 2 years).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on legal terminology.
  • Superior organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong legal research capabilities and familiarity with legal databases.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A solid understanding of legal ethics and client confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A paralegal certificate or an associate's/bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Actionstep).
  • Familiarity with local court rules and procedures specific to Bristol and surrounding areas.
  • Experience in a specific area of law relevant to our practice (e.g., litigation, family law, corporate law).
